Precise Air Aboriginal Pathways (PAAP) https://www.preciseair.com.au/precise-air-aboriginal-pathways-paap/ Sun, 26 Nov 2023 20:50:13 +0000 https://www.preciseair.com.au/?p=17946 One of the first initiatives arising from the development of our Reflect RAP* this year is the Precise Air Aboriginal Pathways (PAAP) programme.

Developed over nine months this year, the PAAP is a great example of industry working with TAFE NSW Aboriginal Education and Engagement team and the AES to create a programme that leads to real employment outcomes. It combines apprenticeships and employment opportunities with Precise, with ongoing mentoring, learning and cultural support throughout their apprenticeships.

Our aim is to contribute towards initiatives that help to ‘close the gap’ by providing work readiness training, skills and employment opportunities to Aboriginal apprentices and cadets within a culturally appropriate framework. Ultimately, it will result in direct employment opportunities with Precise Air.

The PAAP consists of 4 components:

Phase 1: 5 day off-site course held in Grafton for prospective apprentices and cadets that encourages developing deep connections between all participants that includes:

Phase 2: Interviews and employment with Precise. Up to 6 positions are available including apprenticeships in Wollongong, Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong, and business administration cadets

Phase 3: Ongoing ‘block’ training for apprentices in Grafton, providing educational support and deepening
connections within the cohort

Phase 4: 12 months of ongoing mentoring and support from AES, and mentoring and learning support from TAFE NSW for the duration of the apprenticeships.

This programme is the result of an exciting collaboration between the TAFE NSW Aboriginal Education and Engagement team and the AES (Aboriginal Employment Strategy).

*Our Reflect RAP currently has conditional approval.
